Sawing steel is also a form of machining. This is usually the first step in a machining process. We saw the desired length with a slight excess, so the workpiece can be further machined on the lathe or milling machine later.
We not only saw steel but also bronze and other materials. De Waal has two heavy-duty band saw benches and a hacksaw machine. One saw bench even has a fully automatic feed system. Without human supervision, it feeds in a new piece of material each time. This allows us to saw rings for our propeller shaft seals, among other things, very quickly.
